Ski touring to Russet Lake Hut 2

Whistler back country skiing is on! We picked up Justine and Nick from Australia (well, we didn't pick them up in Australia :-) and drove to the parking lot at Creekside.

Seppel, Kerstin and Justine getting ready.

We took the gondola and a couple of chairlifts to make life easier. It isn't the easiest to load a chairlift with a 60L backpack. Kerstin still having fun.

Nick and Justine in front of Flute, getting ready for the touring.

Well, splitboard skins are a bit fatter so it isn't that easy to pull them apart. Kerstin and Nick trying hard.

Justine on her splitboard. Nothing you could hunt Kangaroos with..

Our first lunch break. The Musical Bumps in the back ground.

Kerstin skinning uphill.

Justine and Nick following.

After about 4-5 hours we reached the Russet Lake hut. Everybody was happy about that.

We cooked dinner and drunk some mulled wine (thanks Justine, that was a great idea). The night was pretty cold. I think it was about -15 to -20 outside. Since the hut is not really insulated it was probably the same temperature inside. We also did some engineering up there, later more about that.

Justine the next morning. Still a little bit cold.

Kerstin. Well, the hut looks actually colder than it was.

We went out and had a beautiful view, no clouds.

The Spearhead area. You can do a traverse from Whistler Mountain to Blackholm Mountain. Hopefully we will do it one day.
